Down to the last weeks of school

Starting my new school I was a little worried. I did not feel I would survive being away from my friends for 5 months, but I have, and knowing that I only had to spend 5 months here made it a little better. There is less than 5 weeks of this semester left, then I will be graduating. I am very excited, however not really ready. The thought still kind of seems unreal, in the next 2 months I will be starting college and no longer in high school. My time at Moline High school was not as bad as I thought it would be, although I did not make many friends, it was still a great experience.

Research Paper

This quarter my college Writing class is doing a collaborative Global Issue Analysis Research Paper. My group is doing global gang violence, pretty much based on the history of gangs around the world. During my research I found a website called History.com, which is based on a tv show called Gangland, featuring different gangs. I have dicovered that gangs are notorious all around the world, and have been around for thousands of years. 5 of the biggest gangs and criminal groups in existance today is the Crips who are primarily but not exclusively, african american, mostly found in Los Angeles. Hells Angles which is more of a club than a criminal organization. Another gang is the MS13 gang also known as Mara Salvatrucha, mostly made up of Salvadorans, Hondurans, and Central Americans. There is also the IRA (Irish Republican Army) being in existance since around 1916. The final most notorious gang in the world is the Russian Mafia, and their members are mostly ex Soviet Army officers. To find more on these gangs follow this website.

Classses Senior Year

This year I am graduating early so I only have half a semester to do. My classes are not hard but they are not what I expected to be in this year. At my old school I had already chose my classes, however I had planned doing two years worth of classes. When i came to my new school I found out that many of the classes I signed up for they did not have. For instance I wanted to take a third year of Theater class but Moline did not have those classes. I also planned on taking a BLack Literature class, but Moline did not provide that class as an option either.
Coming to this school I realized everything has changed. Including my surroudings, my friends, and even my classes. I know a have a lot of adapting to do, but I believe it should be fine, considering I only have half a semester to do.

Activities Senior Year

My new school celebrated homecoming a few weeks ago, one of the first dances of the year. This made me miss my previous school even more, because I enjoyed participating in all the school activities. It felt awkward to hear my new high school do their homecoming chants, because half of the chant contained the same words that my previous school also used. I remembered saying over the summer, before I moved how I would paricipate in everything my senior year, but after starting a new school I did not feel the same way anymore.

The same feeling vame over me every Friday when my school had their football games, luckly I had to work every Friday so I did not have to spend the night thinking about being at my old school's football game. I'm enjoying being at my new school, however I still wish that I could be apart of my old school just to take part in their activities with all my senior friends.

Steps to Making new friends

Sometimes it is hard to make new friends, at least it was for me. Believe it or not there are actual websites on how to make new friends. Step by step anyone who needs friends, can learn how. I personally found that to be amazing, I could use simple guidelines to make new friends and not spend my senior year alone.

I however did not use these tips, I used the same guide Mary used and learned to just be myself. Mary realized that she was going to be leaving her old friends and, meeting new people so she had to accept the change. I, like her had to adapt to my surroudings and realize that this was where I would be for the next six months. I, of course stood out because I was a new student, so I got the usual question "are you new." This was usually how all my conversations started, and it was also how I made new friends. When talking to new people, I managed to let them know that i was a senior, from Rock Island, and I had just moved to Moline over the summer. This worked for me, because me and several other students that i met (some who happened to also be new to the school) conversated about having to move from our previous location and making new friends. I realize it will not be as difficult to make new friends, however I do not know how well my school year will go haviing to spend it with new people senior year.

Making new friends

My first fear starting this new school , was how I was going to make new friends this year. I would describe myself as the "odd one out, with no one to talk to my first day of school.

Lisa Yang made a post explaining how a new student may feel coming to a new school, I myself could have been that student she was talking about because being a new student that is exactly how I felt. I constantly asked myself, "will i have to eat alone at lunch," or will I even see my friends again. I however did not beg and plead for my parents to let me stay at my previous school, because I did not believe I would have a problem making new friends.

Senior Year!!!

back to school time! by House Of Sims.

There is nothing better than starting Senior year in high, because now there is only one more year left. Spending freshman through junior year at the same high school is simply awesome,so we all look forward to senior year and graduating with friends. The problem is when senior year is spent a totally different school, with people you have never met. Like Julie i feared starting this new school, only because i did not know anyone. I was not comfortable with the fact that I did not know anyone. Julie however, was transferring to a private school, but she had been in public schools most of her school years, so her situation was a bit tougher than mine. We both had to face the fact that we would meet new people, and miss our old friends.

When I was notified that I would be starting a new school my Senior year I wasn't upset at all, but that was only because I was so excited about moving to a new home. Moving meant i got my own room, met new friends, etc. What I didn't know was how it would feel after I actually started school. I realized that this was my last year in high school and i did not have any of my friends to spend the year with. I thought it would be cool to meet new people and make new friends, but I was wrong.
